Effect of brain structure and function on reward anticipation in children and adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder combined subtype (ADHD-CT) Brief title: Reward anticipation in children and adults with ADHD-CT

چکیده
Background: ADHD is associated with decreased ventral-striatal (VS) responsiveness during reward anticipation. However, previous research mostly focused on adults with heterogeneous ADHD subtype and divers drug treatment status while studies in children with ADHD are sparse. Moreover, it remains unclear to what degree ADHD is characterized by a delay of normal brain structure or function maturation. We therefore attempt to determine whether results from structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging are associated with childhood and adult ADHD-CT. Methods: This study used functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) to compare VS structure and function of 30 participants with ADHD-CT (16 adults, 14 children) and 30 controls (20 adults, 10 children), using a monetary incentive delay (MID) task. Joint analyses of structural and functional imaging data were conducted with Biological Parametric Mapping. Results: Reward anticipation elicited decreased VS responsiveness in adults but not in children with ADHD-CT. Children and adults with ADHD showed reduced VS volume. Taking these gray matter differences into account, the results remained the same. by gest on N ovem er 4, 2016 http://scaordjournals.org/ D ow nladed from

متن کاملDifferential reward processing in subtypes of adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
OBJECTIVES Abnormalities in reward processing have been found in adolescents and adults with ADHD using the 'Monetary Incentive Delay' (MID) task. However, ADHD groups in previous studies were heterogeneous regarding ADHD subtype, gender and, in part, drug treatment status. This study sought to compare neural activations in the ventral striatum (VS) and prefrontal regions during reward processi...

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been suggested to involve deficits in reward processing. We used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to compare the neural responses to reward anticipation and outcomes in 10 adults with ADHD and 10 controls as they played a monetary incentive delay task. Adults with ADHD were unmedicated, and groups were matched for age, verbal IQ an...

Background: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is common in adults, and associated with comorbidities and negative consequences in many parents of children with ADHD. The aim of this study was to determine ADHD and personality disorder in parents of children with ADHD compared to the healthy group. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive and the analytic study were conducted i...
متن کاملStriatal sensitivity during reward processing in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
OBJECTIVE Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been linked to deficits in the dopaminergic reward-processing circuitry; yet, existing evidence is limited, and the influence of genetic variation affecting dopamine signaling remains unknown. We investigated striatal responsivity to rewards in ADHD combined type (ADHD-CT) using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and wheth...
